THE HUMAN EYE
PORTRAIT AND PROFILE SKETCHING
A face speaks. Whether one is looking at it in person or on paper. Come to think of it – what do you remember about people? Their names and other ideosity’s or them.
When we recollect people, we come across one specific aspect – the face of an individual.
For us is an epitomizing avenue playing the most vital role in all of our endeavors. Something that is able to always connect us as people, two individual entities as who and what we are, be it with friends, family and the world at large.
My interest in capturing different contours of a face seemed a very challenging aspect. What I read about the arts was this one fact that finds most importance is the fact about several and several numbers of people having tried and failed at capturing all the wholesome beauty that the creator has given this part of every living creature’s body.
The answer to this jigsaw slowly showcased itself to me. It’s simple.
Every face had its uniqueness.
To top it, every face has ‘n’ number of variations, which enhances that uniqueness.
My initial figurines that I sketched on paper made a mad person out of me. Frustrated at the fact that the key defining elements of a face were never in proportion.
My hand and eye coordination was, it seems today, barbaric to the eye. I do not say I have come too far from those days. All that I can humbly accept – it’s been a journey to remember to be walking towards the right path. Hopefully!!
Posturing
Similar interest avenue for me has been the postures that in some ways are different. Concepts such as Sleeping Beauty and the likes have for centuries captured the imagination of so many among us.
How could I have resisted trying to capture none of these? I initially tried my hand at it, in reality, due to my failure to capture the intricate details of a face. I read somewhere in those initial days that to get good at things, we needed to have small wins.
So, I mellowed my ambitions at being overtly, only interested in capturing faces and its various expressions, and found a new avenue that would help me move myself up the ladder of my expectations.
This is the time where i saw a transition and hence the focus on body posturing had its initiation.
Mostly among them I have captured; are from numerable snaps that I chanced upon in various magazines, web-images, et-all.
